Things You Shouldn't Do in the Blogosphere
1) Do *not* take content from someone else's blog — like mine for example — and post it on your blog without asking, or linking back, or giving any sort of recognition of the author/photographer's work. It's extremely rude, as well as infringing on copyright ownership.
2) Say you feel like stealing content anyway. Do *not* steal bandwidth, too, by directly linking to the the server hosting your victim's images. Not only is this bad form, but it also makes it really easy for the owner of the images — me, for example — to add watermarks, URLs, and copyright lingo. I've heard of people doing worse things in this situation, like replacing the hijacked images with offensive ones. But, I wouldn't do that, because I'm nice and polite and kind enough to share my work. All I ask for is the same in return.
3) Then, after being asked to take stolen content off of your site, please *do.* Adding a couple unhyperlinked URLs that stagnantly refer to where the stolen content came from is not an acceptable solution. WTF?
4) Stop the scraping. Get some real content.

This, of course, is small potatoes compared to what Rosa is dealing with, but I'm still bugged. I like to be generous. I like to write up and photograph crafty tutorials to share. But I really don't like it when people steal my stuff — it makes me bitchy and ungenerous.
*Note* I've removed the link back to the offending scraper. She apologized and removed my content.

Deleted a baldly worded comment as I realised it could cause misunderstanding. Sorry.
But people should not steal. That should not be very complicated, right?
Oh..oh, this makes me so sad. I love your blog, and all that you so generously share here. I am a bit of a lurker, only commenting a hand full of times, but I have found so much goodness here. I am so thankful to you for that. Your mini-book of family crafts over the years brought tears to my eye -- brilliant and lovely. I have made several versions of your sweater pants for my two girls, and really love all of your stories about family and motherhood. ... I just wanted to let you know how sorry I am that someone took advantage of your openness, and also that I haven't told you that your blog brings a bit of lovely into my own life. thank you, really!
i've been scraped, and it really is infuriating.
a popular parenting site (i won't name it, but i'm tempted) stole a friend's content and posted it saying, lamely, that they weren't sure where it was from. it is *so* difficult to google for a exact phrase, isn't it? when she complained, they told her they really didn't want to take it down, since it was one of their top page-hit posts.
i emailed oilily about rosa .. i don't know if you've read about what ann wood went through:

Ugh, this makes me ill. I am seeing it more and more as the blogging community grows. We used to be a small town where actions had consequences but now as a big city the people that do this just don't care - forget morals, manners, and the law - it is so much easier to steal good content rather than create it yourself. If I ever stop blogging I believe it will be because of instances like this since I can't shake it off very easily. So sorry this has happened to you and thanks for letting everyone know about it.
I am glad she bowed in the wind of your wrath. I would have been glad to add my own wrath, of course, but yours is top-grade (and right), and needs no help.
Sucks, doesn't it? There are some very unoriginal people out there who have no pride.
And then there are awesome people like you, Michelle, who rise to the top in spite of them.
I'm curious--how did you find out? I'd like to see if anyone has scraped my blog. Doubt it, but, it's good to know how to do this stuff. I'm sorry you were treated this way. Bummer.
This is the stuff that makes the blood boil. Please know that there are many, many more kindred souls out there, appreciative of all you contribute and the scrapers are in the minority who should be fearful for their karma!
This makes me so sad. I love seeing your posts and it's so generous of you to share your work with us!
What makes me even madder than people stealing blog content is people selling things on places like madeit and etsy when they've obviously used a free pattern that had 'not for commercial use' on it and the designer was letting people use it for personal use because they're lovely and generous.
I'm sorry to hear someone has ripped off your posts and I hope it doesn't put you off posting in the future.
