Cold Turkey

bookcase
Notice anything missing? I packed up the 200 or so kid videos and DVDs that my mom had acquired in the last five years — they were sitting in front of the books. We're going cold turkey and it's working out just fine. Boy, am I surprised.

This also explains my absence from posting. I'm still making stuff, just don't have the same amount of screen time to publish. We're also moving out to the granny unit, so things are a bit chaotic. The move is tempting me to sell off a bunch of stuff (supplies and old craft stock), so keep your eyes peeled for some sort of shop or something.

Thanks to all the lurkers who invited me to visit their blogs. Anyone else? I love finding new crafty folks.

200 videos!! Well, it looks nice there now, with the vintage books with peeling spines and muted colors.

I would be worried, except that we talked about it and the fact that it works, and is working well. Enjoy! Books!

I love when people post pictures of their bookshelves so I can try and identify titles 8-) There are a few that look familiar.

I have a thing for old books on newer/newish shelves. Your books are so tidy! Congrats on the success with the cold turkey alternative. If only...

I would seriously LOVE to do the same thing and even get rid of the TV altogether but i'd need DH on my side for that and at the moment he's not :(
I'm thinking of having a tv ban during the day and only having an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. We used to do this but it's gradually crept in again and they're having it on throughout the day far too much.

Awesome! Whatever works for you. :) As far as crafting ... it's the doing that's important, so even though you don't have the time to share the actual projects with us, we are all getting your great maker-vibes anyway. :)

Around here everyone seems to use the DVD's/video's less as they get older (think because reading and other things become easier for them). Have fun with packing and moving. I got rid of craft items a few years ago. Ended up donating it to a youth charity. Some was kept for them to make stuff and the rest went into their thrift shop (everything was gone in one trip, no second thoughts about keeping anything).

Way to go. We did the same thing when our kids were about at the same ages, and we've not looked back. Now they are 10 and 12 years old, love to read, and watch about 1-3 hours per WEEK of stuff we either get from the library or netflix.

bring those darlings down south anytime.

I have been reading craft blogs for a couple years now and about a month ago I started my own. It is mostly a way to keep my parents and in-laws up to date with our busy family, but I am into making my own stuff so there is also crafting, cooking, etc. It's called thenoisyvillage.com
I would love it if you came and took a look. I love your blog so much and would appreciate any ideas you might have.

Ah, I see you have a copy of "I Married Adventure" with its lovely animal print cover. I have had this book since I was about 12 years old. I love it, and seeing it on your blog makes me want to pull it out and read it again. Thank you.
