New Blogger

Well, I printed out a whole year's worth of posts and comments before I switched over because I know someone who had lost everything. Kind of feels neat to see the pile — looks like a lot of work. Anyone know of a way to back up a blog electronically?

Checking another computer and it works fine. Boy, I need a new computer. An outdated Mac, how behind the times can I be. ;)

Did it work OK? Smooth and easy like they promise?

You have your own domain where your blog is published, right? Before you switched, you could have made a copy of those folders on the server or downloaded them to your local computer. Now that you switched, Blogger probably over-wrote the old files with the new files.

But it doesn't look like you lost anything. :)

I've heard about turning your blog into a book!! I would love to turn mine into a hard cover just to have a print version. I looked into BookSmart, but that's all the farther I got. If anyone else knows more I'd love to hear about it!

It's geek. Which is like Greek, I guess. I mean, I know a Greek geek. He is very strange. Wait! Wait! Maybe it's Esperanto, like in that movie with William Shatner

Booksmart software on blurb.com
I've heard that it is great!
The books are very good quality.
I haven't done it myself, but a friend at work did it with her sister's wedding photos. She showed it to me. It came out very cool.

All those technical things are frightening me so much, I think I will stay with the old Blogger version forever (or the day they delete me). And you are so lucky, you could talk about your problems in English and you understand it, while here the new beta-blogger-system is written in English, too, and I am German and so it is a big mistery for me at all.
Thank you so much for your nice words and the link to Kristins stitch-a-long! Her book is fantastic and I hope one day I have the patience to embroider even a table cloth (love her sun flowers), or a bag, or a blanket, or..........
Best wishes, Suzi

Hey!
In Typepad help they tell you how to backup by exporting all of your posts; I am sure they have the same in blogger.
I imported all of my blogger posts from my first blog at blogger to typepad- I like the application better!
good luck!

Wishful thinking, Emily. Blogger is crap, and there is no export (I'm 99% certain). It makes sense that a blog application would have an import, though, to encourage you to switch.

As for Esperanto ... my dear geeky father named my childhood dog Hundo, the Esperanto word for dog.

Oh, this happened to me too! I was making changes to Wordpress, and the fist thing they give you instructions to do is to backup, which I did. Then I made the changes and I did mess something up, so I went to do the backup to restore everything, and there was an error in the file! Now someone a little more technical than myself might have been able to recover something, but I was totally lost so I reinstalled and started from square one. Not a huge deal, but a bummer to lose the comments. I hope you learn some trick here. I have a feeling that we'll be seeing "blog recovery" and "blog backup" services being a new career!

I had no switch-up problems, except I still can't figure out how to get my graphic up in the header section. *sigh*

Alice, you were right. All the files are on my server. I had some notion that there was only an index.html file there and that they had the rest on their server. Cool! I've got them. Thanks.

I'm not worried about losing comments, turned them off a long time ago because I couldn't deal with the spam. I made the switch and I lost my whole blog! Well, not all the posts, but the main page that has been online since 2001 got dropped from Google. I don't know if it was because I started using the new Blogger labels, and they filled my site up with dupe content, or if it's someting worse. I wrote up a post about it last night Internet Publishing Fatigue and this morning, I noticed that by other blog is gone from Google cache, though still indexed. Be prepared for a bumpy ride.
